About Us

About us

Welcome to 'Ask Sherlock', Portsmouth's online directory of services, activities, community and voluntary groups in and around Portsmouth.

Ask Sherlock is a new online directory of services and positive activities for young people, parents, families and practitioners. The new directory combines and replaces some of the online service directories across Portsmouth City Council's Children's Services, including the Portsmouth Children's Trust's Children and Young People Services (CHYPS) Directory, the Portsmouth Connexions A-Z Directory and the Portsmouth CHAT Family Information Service directory.

We offer information on childcare, activities and services for families and children ages 0-19 years. If you are looking for childcare, activities for children and young people, want to work in childcare or looking for information on parenting classes, family support, health and a wide range of other information Portsmouth Chat can help you.

Our service also aims to support parents in finding out their employment rights. Whether you're interested in adoption, paternity or maternity leave or flexible working, we can tell you about the different possibilities, help you choose the best option and assist you with paperwork along the way.

We also offer an online estimator to help calculate Tax Credits and Childcare Employment Voucher entitlement.

If you have any questions or queries in relation to the above please contact Portsmouth's Family Information Service:
