Searching the directory
You can search the directory in one of four ways, either by zone and category, by keyword(s), by postcode or by using the advanced search option if you would like to use all the above search functions as well as search in a specific area of Portsmouth, such as Tipner or Wymering.
The three zones that make up the Portsmouth City Council's Children's Service Directory are:
- Young People - which includes information on services and positive activities for young people. Find out about activities, clubs and support groups for young people aged 13 - 19.
- Parents and Carers - find information for your family on services, activities, support groups and childcare.
- Professionals - find services which support practitioners in their work with children, young people and families.
Quick search by keyword and/or postcode
The whole directory can be searched from the home page
For a specific event or organisation: Enter a keyword in the 'Search for' search box and click 'Ask'.
For any event or organisation near you: Type your postcode in the 'Postcode' search box and click 'Ask'.
To search for a type of event or organisation near you: Enter a keyword in the 'Search for' search box and your postcode in the 'Postcode' search box and click 'Ask'.
Category Search
Links for the three main zones are displayed on the homepage, as well as the main menu on the left.
By clicking on a zone, you will get a list of categories that belong to the selected zone.
By clicking on a category, you will get a list of sub-categories that belong to the selected category.
By clicking on a sub-category, you will get a list of events and/or a list of organisations that belong to the selected sub-category.
Advanced search
To start your advanced search, please click on the 'advanced search' link under the main header.
Choose one or more of the following to filter the search results:
- Enter a keyword which accurately describes what you are looking for in the 'Search for' search box
- Click one of the buttons beside the Zones 'Young People', 'Parents & Carers' or 'Professionals'
- Choose an area of Portsmouth by clicking on the arrow beside the text box and choose the area of Portsmouth you wish to find a service or activity in.
- Choose a distance from the drop-down list within the distance of the postcode you wish to find a service or activity.
Click on 'Search' to filter the records.
Search Results
The number of results is shown above the list: 1 to 10 of 53 results. If there are more than 10 results, they will be split into pages. You can browse through the pages by clicking on the page numbers in the top right hand corner of the page. The list of records displays the title of the organisation, a short description, the website address, a link to the full record and a link to a printer friendly version of the record. By clicking on the 'view record' link underneath each result, you will see all the details we hold about the organisation/activity plus links to any further information. By clicking on the 'print record' link underneath each result, you will see a printer friendly copy of the record.
